Pool Purification Equipment
Swimming Pool purification equipment isn’t nearly as complicated as you might think. It entails the filter system and the chemicals used. There are a variety of options in these systems. There are three main filter systems. They are Cartridge, diatomaceous earth, and sand. 1. Sand Filter With this style filter the water is pushed through the sand that is locked within the filter and then it is removed through a set of bottom tubes. Only the top one inch of sand is actually used to filter. Water is pushed through the sand and the sand is able to trap tiny microns of dirt and debris within the sand. Cleaning the filter is very easy. All you need to do is a backwash. There are no expensive cartridges to buy and the sand only needs to be replaced every few years. 2. Cartridge Filter This is probably the most economical filter on the market. The water passes through the cartridge which then traps the dirt and debris. The size choices are terrific. In fact there are way more choices than there are with sand or DE. When the filters become clogged you simply rinse them with the hose and reinstall. When the filters become ratty looking you just replace them. 3. DE or Diatomaceous Earth Filter This is made of fossilized exoskeletons of tiny diatoms. This material acts as a sieve removing debris as small as 5 microns. The powder is usually poured into a slurry inside the skimmer and then it coats the filter grids. Sanitizing the pool generally involves chlorine and other harsh chemicals. These chemicals can irritate the skin, make your eyes burn, and corrode away the liner to name just a few of the side effects. But there are alternatives which will allow you to use fewer chemicals. 1. Ozonator Ozonators are quickly becoming the pool sanitization method replacing awful chemicals that not only smell awful they aren’t healthy. Ozone is a natural sanitizer. It is produced by passing air through a high voltage electrical charge that is a minimum of 5000 volts which then creates a corona. In a large swimming pool you need to make sure that you are getting enough ozone for it to be effective. Using ozone results in less skin irritations, less maintenance, no need for chlorine so therefore no chlorine smell and no stinging eyes. 2. Salt Water Chlorine Generator If you are wondering how salt water or natural saline purification can work it’s really quite simple. Small amounts of sodium chloride are dissolved in the water. As the sodium chloride is pumped through the system it is broken down as chloride and sodium oxidizing the bacteria and purifying the water. Then the two components are rebound to once again for a natural salt. 3. Copper and Silver Ionization This uses a process that is very similar to that which is used around the world for water purification. It sends an electrical current through the silver and copper which releases sanitized icons into the pools water. It’s such a simple and inexpensive method of purification that it is expected to grow in popularity. Pool purification equipment has come a long way so don’t be fooled into thinking you need to use a bunch of ugly chemicals.
