Vacuuming And Pool Tile Cleaning Tips

That great pool you have is going to need regular cleaning so now is a good time for some basic cleaning procedures including vacuuming and pool tile cleaning tips.

There are some great ways to save time and money with some basic steps for cleanup.

1. Deck and Cover Cleaning
Removing as much of the debris off the deck as possible means there is less stuff to fall into the pool which can be easily done with a simple broom.

2. Surface Skimming
It is a lot easier to remove the debris when it is floating on the top then it is to remove once it sinks. All you need is a extending pole and leaf rake. As you fill the net up just empty it into the compost bin or garbage bag.

3. Tiles
You should always clean your tiles first. As you clean the tiles the dirt and debris will fall off and settle to the bottom of the pool where it will be picked up by filters.

If you have tiles that are stained you can use a pumice stone to gently remove it. The tile soap and a tile brush will also lift most stains. For really tough stains you can use muriatic acid. Use a very mild potion of one part acid to six part soap.

Don’t forget to scrub below the water line which changes with fills and evaporation. Never use abrasive scrub pads to clean. They will scratch your tiles.

4. Water Levels
Evaporation means you will occasionally have to add an inch or two of water. It’s better to do it on a regular basis then wait until it’s dropped too low because it will take forever to top up then.

Sometimes after a heavy rainfall you might actually have to drain some water off. You can do this with your backwash hose or your vacuum hose.

5. Vacuuming
If your pool isn’t overly dirty you can just give the bottom and the walls a brushing and not bother to vacuum. However if there is debris floating around you will want to use your vacuum.

A vacuum to filter system runs through the circulation system with the suction concentrated near the skimmer port. If you have two skimmers you just need to close one off.

Take your vacuum hose and attach it to your pole. Then very slowly feel the hose straight down into your pool. The water will slowly fill the hose displacing the air. Now the hose has suction so you can slide it along to pick up debris. Work your way across the bottom and then across the sides. Move slowly to pick up all the debris.

6. Brushing
This process removes algae from the pool surface. If your pool isn’t overly dirty you can just do a brushing and not bother vacuuming. Make sure you push the dirt towards the drain. Then the filter will quickly suck it up removing it from the pool.

These vacuuming and pool tile cleaning tips will have your pool water sparkling and looking ever so inviting for the next hot sunny day.
